Neck Pain
Osteopathy can help with neck pain. Here, at the ICOM clinic in Ewell, we see many patients with neck problems. Your ICOM Clinic osteopath can advise you in detail, however below is a general guide to neck pain.
Symptoms:
A pain in the neck can be a real pain in the neck! Stiffness and restriction of movement can seriously affect your work, sleep, driving and social life. Pain can also radiate out from the neck affecting the head and other areas of the upper body.
What causes it?
The neck has the job of supporting the head, this can weigh as much as a bowling ball so everything has to be finely balanced. Neck pain can come from a number of more obvious sources including repetitive motions, poor posture, stress, sporting injuries, whiplash or just sleeping in the wrong position. There can also be other causes which may not be so apparent such as nerve, bone, cartilage or disc problems.
Can Osteopathy help?
We can help with neck pain in many cases. We will first complete an assessment and make a diagnosis in order to determine the way forward for you personally. If we believe that osteopathy can help alleviate the pain or discomfort, we will recommend a course of gentle hands on treatment and some associated exercises. Naturally we will advise you if we think your condition may require referral and more specialist treatment.
