Osteopathy can help with shoulder pain. Here, at the ICOM clinic in Ewell, we see a large number of patients with shoulder issues. Your ICOM Clinic osteopath can advise you in detail, however below is a general guide to problems with the shoulders.

Symptoms:

Problems with the shoulder can restrict the movement of the arm, for example raising the arm above shoulder height or moving the arm behind your head. These symptoms can last a few days or even years depending on the nature of the problem.

What causes it?

There could be a number of causes. One of the most common is a ‘rotator cuff’ injury. These tend to be caused by some sort of trauma or overextension from an accident or sporting activity. Age is also a factor. The often quoted ‘frozen shoulder’ happens when the tissue around your shoulder first becomes inflamed and then shrinks back down causing pain. Depending on how long you have had the problem your symptoms might be pain, lack of movement or even both.

Can Osteopathy help?

We will first complete an assessment, make a diagnosis and advise you if we think your condition may require referral or more specialist help.

Osteopathic treatment may involve gentle manipulation of the soft tissues of the shoulder to release tension and a programme of exercises to help to help strengthen the injured tissues.
